蜀葵，别称一丈红、大蜀季、戎葵。在中国很多区域都有分布，由于它原产于中国四川，故名“蜀葵”而又因为花多为红色，又叫一丈红。于6月间麦子成熟时开花，而得名“大麦熟”。

蜀葵是二年直立草本，高达2米，茎枝密被刺毛。花呈总状花序顶生单瓣或双瓣，蜀葵花色很多，常见的是红色，还有紫、白、粉、紫黑等颜色。花期为2~8月，蒴果，种子偏圆，肾脏形。

喜阳光充足，耐半阴，但忌涝。嫩叶及花可食，皮为优质纤维，可全株入药。蜀葵作为药物使用时，具有多种功效。
